Enameled Dutch Ovens 101

If you follow me on social media, you know that I often cook in enameled Dutch ovens. Some folks were surprised to see that I cover enamelware in my book, Modern Cast Iron, but the fact is that enamelware is cast iron with an enamel coating. This combination affords it many of the health and cooking benefits of cast iron while removing the issue of rust and the need for seasoning. This makes it an ideal cookware for those interested in cast iron who don’t want to worry with the seasoning.

Check out this video all about enameled Dutch ovens to learn more about this versatile and easy-to-use cookware, including buying considerations and a comparison of popular brands.

Modern Cast Iron is now available wherever books are sold.

If you like to garden or to indulge in a bit of nostalgia, you’ve probably thumbed through a farmer’s almanac. This year, pick up The Almanac for Farmers & City Folk 2021 at your local feed store or online (it should be on Amazon shortly). Then turn to page 118 for my article, “Caring for Cast-Iron Cookware.” They even illustrated it for me! How cool is that?
