As you may have guessed, I’m a Big Sister. If you are, too, you’ll know that it can really define you as a person, as you’re the one blazing the trails and putting out the fires. It can also drive you crazy, since you can simultaneously want to hug and hurt your little brother or sister for the craziest of things.

If you have an older sister, you’ll know the flip-side—what it’s like to feel loved and bullied all at the same time. I’m the oldest, so I can’t really feel your pain on this one, but my two sisters and brother have explained it all to me over the years. (And again, I say “I’m sorry!”)

As a Big Sister, I’ve felt the pressure of being the first to hit the major milestones. I’ve always wanted to be a good example, but I’ve made some big mistakes. The fact that God has used these as learning opportunities for my siblings is proof that He loves us and works all things for our good. (See Romans 8:28.)

I believe that, no matter how old you are, you always need a Big Sister—someone looking out for you, encouraging you to pick up your feet and keep on moving.

So, that’s what I intend to do here—to encourage you as you go about life. But my words of encouragement are empty platitudes if I don’t base them on the truth of God.

I learned how to study Scriptures at the Tallahassee Christian College and Training Center where I obtained my Master’s in Biblical Studies in 2010. This just means that I’m now qualified to study the Bible, as Johnny Cash once said. It’s true that I don’t know everything. But I do know the One who does…and, thankfully, He answers questions.
