Skillethead Interview with Orphaned Iron

This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing skillethead Matt Bright of Orphaned Iron. Matt’s full-time job is restoring cast-iron cookware, which he sells on his Etsy shop. Not only does he sell restored-and-ready cast iron, but he’ll restore your old rusty pan—for only $20!

Here are some highlights from the interview:

* Matt owns about 3500 pieces of cast-iron cookware, over 400 pieces of which are in his personal collection!
* Like most restorers, Matt’s interest in cast iron started with family.
* Unlike other restorers, Matt uses only one method to restore cast iron: the electrolysis tank (or E-tank).
* He uses only vegetable shortening (like Crisco) to season his pans.

Follow Orphaned Iron on Facebook, Instagram, or Tiktok, and bookmark his Etsy page for that Christmas list. Also, be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel, where I’ll be sharing more interviews with cast iron pros as I continue to do research for my upcoming book, Skilletheads (Red Lightning Books, fall 2022), and sign up for my newsletter below for monthly tips and encouragement.
